Over the past few years, AAE's Finance department has undergone a transformation. From a traditional record-keeping department to being an essential advisor within the company. Wiebe, Team Lead Finance, explains enthusiastically: “When I started here, I was the only one handling financial reporting in a team of six people. Which was far from ideal an didn’t help the continuity of our department. Nowadays, we are a total of 10 employees in the department. We have developed to the point where we have our monthly figures ready within three working days. This is a good basis to make decisions on. I often compare our role in accounting to a person mowing the grass on a soccer field, it must be perfect so that controlling and our other colleagues can perform optimally.
Continuous Development
Despite AAE's recent growth, which has brought many new colleagues on board, Wiebe and his department have managed to get more done with the same number of people by working more efficiently. “We are constantly improving,” says Wiebe. “We look for ways to accelerate and streamline our processes. By automating our processes, we can deliver the same quality, but faster.”
Culture of Collaboration
Within Finance, collaboration is very important. When asked what makes their collaboration so effective, Wiebe replies resolutely: “An open way of communicating with one another is key!
Wiebe’s Way
Wiebe is involved in making all financial information quickly and correctly available within Finance. In addition, he is the first point of contact for accountants and the Tax Service. Wiebe: “My focus is on creating a pleasant work environment where my team can function optimally. I strive for a team that works well together, supports each other during absences, and where everyone has the opportunity to continue developing, for example through courses.” Wiebe explains. His direct and honest communication style, 'Wiebe’s way', works well within the team.
Leadership Program
AAE offers a Leadership Program to many employees to continue stimulating their development, from Young to Senior Leadership Program. During this trajectory at AAE, Wiebe has experienced significant growth. Wiebe: “During the Leadership Program, you do a lot of self-reflection. I learn a lot from it, and I notice and feel it too. That's important to me. I want to improve from every course I take. Because simply put: if I grow as a person, then AAE automatically grows from it too. That also applies to my team. At AAE, we have the opportunity to take any courses, But for me it's most important that my team members grow on a personal level as well. to learn is, after all, very important.”
Behind the scenes of a really cool company!
“We have grown significantly in recent years, but the familiarity remains. That makes our workplace unique,” Wiebe says enthusiastically. “For me, the choice to work at AAE was simple. In the financial world, a production environment like here at AAE is one of the most challenging. It's just really cool to be able to see directly what the end product is and to understand exactly what we are working on behind the scenes. We are just a really cool company!” Wiebe concludes.
